Shadow Yoga, founded by Zhander Remete, is a Hatha Yoga system designed to integrate
the common principles of yoga asana, martial arts, dance, and Ayurvedic/Siddha medicine. 
The starting point consists of 3 standing prelude forms, all devised to prepare the body for
asana-vinyasa.  The full practice format consists of prelude forms, asanas, inversions,
bandhas, kriyas, mudras, pranayama and pratyahara.
 

In Sanskrit, “chaya’ is defined as ‘shadow’ or ‘reflection.’  The word ‘reflect’ means to
‘cast back (light, heat, sound) from a surface’; to ponder or meditate. From a yogic
perspective, the term "shadow" refers to the many layers of our being (5 koshas/sheaths) – physical, energetic, mental/emotional, wisdom and spirit bodies.  As an enlightened yogi once stated, “the appearance of this body is nothing but frozen layers of shadows.”  In the beginning,
the art of Hatha Yoga is the ability to harmonize these distinctly different sheaths in order
to live a healthy and balanced life.  As one enters into advanced yogic practices, the art of dissolving the sheaths is taught and instilled.

Shadow Yoga Prelude Forms

“The prelude forms consist of warrior and sun forms.  The warrior forms are circular and spiral, while the sun forms are linear.  The warrior forms free the peripheral body from its tensions and energetic obstructions, while the sun forms ignite the central power system.”

Form1BALAKRAMA - STEPPING INTO STRENGTH

A dynamic bone strengthening form which actively engages one’s center (navel region), hands, feet, and breath.  Uddiyana bandha is introduced to train the breath, educate the organic body and stimulate the inner fire. 

Form2 CHAYA YODDHA SANCALANAM – CHURNING OF THE SHADOW WARRIOR

The term “churning” implies that something within is being stirred up or moved.   This warrior/sun form activates and harnesses the pranic winds (vayus) which flow through the various energetic channels (nadis). 

Form 3 – KARTTIKEYA MANDALAM – GARLAND OF LIGHT

This advanced warrior/sun form consists of demanding stance work and circular movements, which further increases and refines the pranic force within.  As the nadis further strengthen and circulate, obstructions surface and dissolve until the pranic light flows freely.
